Holiday at the studio

Amanda Chesher

It's that time of year! Holiday minis are already at the studio and waiting for you. Here's how it all works.

Q) When are sessions happening?

A) Over the past years, I see over 100 families for holiday sessions. The busiest year we had 212 families, and the slowest year was the first covid Christmas, with 126 families as I had to space out sessions more. Each year sessions are held over a 6-week span. This year we are starting on the 4th of November, and they will run to the 17th of December. Sessions will happen on the weekend, Friday through Sunday. On these days, only Christmas sessions will be happening. All other sessions, such as boudoir, cake smash, maternity or newborn, will be offered Tuesdays through Thursday. The studio is closed on Mondays.

Q) What is the set up?

A) For the past 12 years, the studio has featured two sets. You are welcome to use both or choose one. That is totally fine! This year we have a monochromatic winter wonderland set and a Snow tree walk set. Sessions are taking place in my studio location in Niagara Falls. I am located above the florist shop. There is parking to the side of the building and also free street parking.

Q) How many people can be in a photo?

A) I often get parents asking if they have to pay extra for more than one child. The answer is no, families with multiple children do not need to pay extra. The sets will also comfortably seat small families (usually about 5 people). The winter wonderland set is ideal for seated family poses and the snowy trees is great for standing families. Oh! And Dogs are welcome. Please just give us a heads up first.

Q) How do we get our images?

A) Images are edited and delivered electronically. They typically take about 1 week to 1.5 weeks. They are sent via a downloadable gallery with instructions for back up ideas.

Q) Can I purchase extra images?

A) Yes, you may! There is an option to add some to your package upon booking, you can add them when you visit the studio and pay for them up front. Or with the delivery gallery you are able to with the download gallery as well. Additional images are $25 each. But please note that these are small sessions designed to be quick, easy sessions, some clients have booked two back-to-back time slots to provide time for added photos. This is especially popular among those who want two different outfits/looks. In the past, I have had clients who have booked two sessions so they may do a look such as pjs for one set and a formal look for another. Sometimes families also do this for extended families, like cousins.

Q) What props do you have?

A) Bernard is an old stuffed teddy bear who has been in every Christmas set for nearly 8 years (with the exception of Covid 2020), he is excited to make another appearance. I also have some fake snow to be blown/tossed, a bucket with white poinsettias, a basket with evergreen boughs and globes. You are also welcomed to bring some items from home as well. Clients in the past have used these sessions to make pregnancy announcements for example.

Q) I have an infant, can we partake?

A) Yes of course! I do encourage parents to be prepared to jump into some photos as well as infants can be unpredictable, and these are time limited. I also have baskets we can use to prop your little one up. Also please let me know if your baby enjoys activities such as tummy time.

Q) How can I book?

A) Please visit www.icingsugarphotography.com/specials to book or check out any limited-edition sessions. From here you can see the calendar with the available times and book whichever time slots works best for you. You can select add ons, such as extra photos, sign your contract and then pay the retainer to hold your spot.
